Theo Graham had just started his own business based in Gananoque when he heard about Starter Company Plus from a friend.

“I was working full time, just getting started,” he recalls. “I reached out to Jeanette and Wendy and was accepted into the program.”

Theo had worked for a number of other companies for several years, leading construction teams across Canada. But he had never run his own business.

“The program is amazing,” sais Theo. “To graduate, you need a business plan, learn how to do cash flow forecasting and more. They coach you through all of this, with templates, examples and real-life exercises. It’s a full-time effort.”

Within the program, Theo was able to get one-on-one guidance from a Small Business Centre advisor. In addition, he participated in a business plan Boot Camp, and received training from professional coaches. He was able to access funding of up to $5,000.

“Once you think you’re ready, they make you pitch your company idea to a group of local business people. They judge you – like the Lion’s Den.”

In 2019 Theo was nominated for the Ben TeKamp Memorial Award at the Awards of Excellence Gala hosted by the Brockville Chamber of Commerce.
