Networking is key.

With a passion for wellness, Sue Torrance’s business – Tasty Indulgences – offers a practical approach to gluten-free living.

Ignited from her own family’s experiences with Celiac Disease, the Prescott resident ventured into learning all she could about going gluten free and has now been able to simplify the commonly over-complicated lifestyle of eating well. “Gluten Free” doesn’t have to be a challenge, it’s an opportunity to get creative and enjoy foods that nourish and heal.

“I started my business a couple of years ago, and began participating in the different farmer’s markets in the area,” recalls Sue. “When I heard about Starter Company Plus through Brockville Women in Business, I felt like I was ready to take the leap.”

By signing up for Starter Company Plus, Sue was able to receive one-on-one guidance from a Small Business Centre advisor and access to a business plan boot camp and coaching/training from professional consultants and coaches. She was able to access funding of up to $5,000.

“I needed more freezers, more equipment. And better marketing,” she recalled. “The grant came in very handy.”

“Jeanette and Wendy are constantly supportive. They’re always sending email newsletters, they’re always having skill development workshops. They’re always there – you just give them a call. I need to pick your brain…what do you think…?”

“And they either know the answer, or they know someone who can help you. I can’t say enough about how supportive they are, and how much they encourage you…just the support, just to know it’s there.”

One of the key advantages of the program is networking.
“I still go back and see some of my classmates and meet the new people joining the program.”
